30 Day Painting Challenge - Day 5 - "Merrimack Sunrise" - SOLD

"Merrimack Sunrise" - 6 x 6 inches - oil on canvas

I got up early and headed down to the harbor to paint.  The morning sun was so bright I could only look up occasionally to catch glimpses of this scene as I tried to capture it on my canvas.  

To make the yellow sun appear even stronger, I added bits of purple to the sky and made sure the water was a shade of purple. These complementary colors vibrate when placed next to each other in a painting.
